TaRL Africa reorients education systems in Africa to ensure children acquire basic literacy and numeracy skills. The approach involves supporting policymakers and practitioners to set achievable goals, engage in mentoring, and educate at the level of the child, rather than according to an age-grade curriculum. TaRL Africa supports governments and partners in 16 countries across Sub Saharan Africa, namely Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Somalia.
TaRL Africa, together with partners, has reached more than 7 million children and two to three times more students exposed for over three years are mastering foundational literacy and numeracy skills. National governments in Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire and state governments in Nigeria have officially adopted the approach.
