CRIOLA’s initiative aims to improve the health system for Afro-Brazilian women by implementing the National Black Population Integral Health Policy, which seeks to both address institutional racism in and enhance access to Brazil’s public health system.

CRIOLA hopes to help reach 1.5 million cisgender and transgender Black women across nine municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The initiative is expected to reduce adverse health outcomes and improve health indicators for Black women, equipping them to form an advocacy network and push for system improvements.
